This one was a special birth. Not only a home birth, which hold a special place in my heart (I’ve had two) but it was of my Niece, my brother and my sister in law’s second baby.
They live in Dickinson and I live in Hillsboro so it was a bit of a toss up the entire time if I’d be able to go, and if I went if I would be able to make it. Alishia called me Valentines day morning to say she thought she was in labor but things were slow. I waited and waited and debated- do I go and possibly miss the birth and have to turn around and come home the next day or wait until the baby is born and go when I can stay a few days and do newborn pictures? Finally that evening my husband said to me “just go” so out the door I went. Of course, being North Dakota in February, it started getting bad then. My windshield kept icing over, the heater couldn’t even keep up with it. Finally after 4+ hours of driving I got there, hoping I was in time. It was just after midnight. I walked in the house and breathed a sigh of relief… I made it! I could tell she was close, but I made it. An hour later Karinn Marie was born, very gently, into the water and her Mama’s waiting arms.
